Hello -- I've been compiling a list of all the tubing I will need to
completely re-tube my recently acquired Reproduco player piano & pipe
organ combination. Among the different sizes of tube in there it uses
some 5/32" I.D. tubing, which does not appear to be available anymore
from any of the usual suppliers of restoration materials.
I've heard that this size is discontinued, and that 3/16" I.D. is so
much larger that it will not fit securely on the tube nipples. Taking
a look at a decimal equivalent chart shows that 4 millimeters is less
than 0.0015" larger than 5/32" and so it would seem to be a perfect
substitute. I am making the assumption that 4 mm would be a standard
size, readily available from a metric supplier.
However, from my searching, metric tubing is not widely stocked in the
USA and, in order to search more broadly, I'm not entirely certain what
variety or composition of tubing would be suitable for this application.
Does anyone in the metric world know of a source for a suitable 4 mm
[inside diameter] tube that I could use as a substitute for 5/32"?
I'm hoping that perhaps there is a supplier as close as Vancouver,
British Columbia, that I could order from, as that would minimize my
shipping expenses or perhaps be a justification for a visit to that
beautiful city.
I should also ask, in the event that I am mistaken about 5/32" being
unavailable, does anyone in the USA know of a source for suitable 5/32"
tubing?
Thank you and best regards,
Troy Taylor
