I'm delighted to announce that we recently recorded the great Buddy
Greco. In the months ahead we will process the recordings and aim to
issue new Duo-Art and hand-played music rolls of the entire session!

So what's next?
Well, for piano rolls we now have the note-track data recorded in the
same way that Aeolian and Ampico recorded their live performances.
Additionally we have all the dynamic information captured
simultaneously. These data are digital, giving us an accurate dynamic
level for every single note, and also as an audio reference recording.
There is also a real-time video recording of the entire keyboard, made
for reference assistance during editing. The note-track for rolls will
be edited in the traditional fashion and Duo-Art dynamic coding will be
generated.
Why the double-bass?
Buddy Greco's performance style is an exemplary world-class example of
jazz pianism, he having started at the age of eighteen with Benny
Goodman's orchestra. The majority of the tracks we have captured are
examples of big band piano. Whilst we could have recorded these all as
solos, we agreed that tying up the left hand with playing stride stuff
to support the right hand was a terrible waste of half the musical
arrangement. So, the bass player in the room played the rhythm and
bass part and the piano part remained the same as in all Buddy's
regular live performances. This we felt was truest in capturing this
world-class artist in his natural style.
But how is it going to sound without the bass-player?
For some of the tracks we have agreed to add in an unobtrusive single-
note jazz bass line, just to carry the music along where absolutely
necessary. To this end we have copies of the bass charts and the live
reference audio.
Any questions, drop me a line anytime!
