You would think that librarians, professionally trained, would check
into a book's value before disposing of it -- but then, books on
esoteric subjects such as ours are likely not on their "this might
be rare" field of vision.
Here in Butte County, Calif., there is a library support organization,
"Friends of the Library." They annually have a surplus book sale
disposing of the withdrawn books. They also have no idea of a books
worth, as I have managed to procure some fairly rare books on steam
automobiles from these sales.
Some years back I purchased a complete set of Tomas' Registers that was
a few years old for $5 (of course, nowadays you can access the same
information off the web!). They more than paid for their price with
information on where to buy odd stuff like we use in our hobbies. Now
I'm stuck with what to do with then since they occupy a large shelf
space and the info is outdated! (Hmmm... Speaking of surplus book
sales, I believe the annual fall sale is tomorrow!)
