I have been through a lot of boxes of piano rolls at estate sales and
thrift stores. Just when one starts to think that piano roll hunting
has come to its logical end, cool stuff still seems to pop up.
At an estate sale in suburban Seattle this week I was going through a
box of what appeared to be mostly Aeolian Themodist Metrostyle rolls.
And what did I find lurking in that box? Master-Record 88-note roll
number 1239, "The Silver Swan Rag," by Scott Joplin. Produced by the
National Music Roll Company of St. Johnsville, N.Y.
The roll is in excellent condition in its original box. I would be
happy to make it available to someone for scanning if there is
interest.
Happy hunting!

[ Warren Trachtman's archive of piano roll scans lists a different
[ performance of the Joplin rag as PianoRecord roll 115, but Warren
[ does not post the MIDI file, probably because of copyright issues.
[ His website posts actual MIDI files only for pre-1923 arrangements.
[
[ If Warren is not interested in scanning the roll, Terry Smythe's
[ archive might be. The only problem is that it becomes expensive to
[ mail music rolls to Canada, because there is no media-mail rate for
[ international mailings.
