Passing of Denis Condon
By Michael Woolf
Sad news today. My mind goes back to a magic evening many years ago
when Harvey and Marion Roehl of fond memory were house-guests at our
New Zealand home. That night the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra
performed the Grieg Piano Concerto with Percy Grainger at the piano.
We hosted the Roehls to the event and during the intermission went
backstage. Denis Condon and Peter Phillips were packing the Vorsetzer
and almost dropped it in surprise -- they had no idea that Harvey and
Marion were in this part of the world.
The next night we hosted a party at home and I have fond memories of
Harvey playing ragtime on some of our pianos. In later years I visited
Denis at Ampico Towers and enjoyed his music. Thank you Denis and
farewell.
