Mermod Freres 11-inch Interchangeable Cylinders
By Tony Ciuffini

Richard Mazur asked if you can safely buy additional cylinders for his
interchangeable music box. Before purchasing the cylinders I would ask
the seller a few questions.

1st, have the seller measure the diameter of the cylinder from pin
to pin [extreme outside diameter].

2nd, have the seller count the number of steps on the snail to make
sure there are 6 steps.

3rd, with the same calipers measure the distance between the lines
on the cylinder.

4th, measure the length of the cylinder.

5th, do the same measurements on _your_ cylinders.

If you get a match on all 5 counts, there is a good chance that they
will play in your movement.

There could be a small adjustment necessary with the pin at the end
of the cylinder that runs against the snail to bring the new cylinders
into registration.

If all the above does match, then it would be advisable to get the
option to return the cylinders if they cannot be made to work.

If necessary, for additional consultation I can be reached at
1-310-514-3038.
