CraftROBO Cutting Machine For Music Rolls
By Spencer Chase
This machine looks much more useful [than the Cricut]. I downloaded
the various manuals and read the specs, etc. It should be possible to
convert a music roll file into graphical instructions but it is not
going to be quick or easy. You could draw the whole roll in Adobe
Illustrator but that would take days.
The better approach would be to convert a roll file into HPGL
instructions and output this directly to the plotter. This is probably
possible but it would be a major programming job to get all the details
right. If there were a significant market for this, I would consider
the project.
It should not be terribly difficult to convert a MIDI file to HPGL but
every roll type will require different parameters so a program needs to
be configurable. This is the sort of detail that takes forever to get
right. Somewhere I have a program that I almost finished that converts
MIDI to perforator instructions. It would be a good start at a program
to create the HPGL.
