Reading the posting about old pianos being discarded at the dump just
breaks my heart! My wife is a gifted pianist and piano teacher. We
had a beautiful Steinway Model L but she had to sell it a few years
ago to help her parents, and we cannot afford to buy another one. Can
you imagine a gifted pianist and teacher who now only has a Yamaha
electronic piano?
It is such a shame that many people today have such little regard for
fine instruments, particularly if they are old, heavy and take up
floor space. I am getting into that category myself, and hope nobody
decides to cart me off to the landfill. Seriously, as Don Teach
forewarned, it is best not to view the New York Times article because
it will make you cry.
I am sure there must be many orphaned or soon-to-be orphaned pianos out
there that were once some other teacher's pride and joy, and now his or
her non-musical children just want to get rid of. Seems such a waste.
