Sealing Metal Valve Plates in Standard Action
By John Struve

I am at the point in the restoration of my Standard double-valve
stack that I am installing the newly restored valves. The valve
plates are screwed on and have a blotter gasket.

In wanting to achieve a tight a stack as possible, is it advisable
to seal the plates once the travel has been set? If so, what is an
acceptable sealant for this and if applied should the blotter remain
or be discarded?

Many thanks,
John Struve
