This seems to be the summer for needing to correct errors and
misidentifications on previously issued Wurlitzer 165 rolls. The
discovery of an original copy of roll 6532 has necessitated the
re-making of labels for that roll and for what was called roll 6504(?).
At the same time the discovery of Wurlitzer's roll 6651 by Dana Johnson
has necessitated the re-numbering of what was 6651(?) with its correct
number, 6650.
MMD'er Dan Robinson's project of posting videos of unknown style 165
tunes on YouTube has finally paid off in getting the tune that was
titled on its original roll as the "C. W. Parker March," then
misidentified for years on recuts as Harry J. Lincoln's "Old Reliable"
given its true title. We now know that the tune is Johann Nepomuk
Král's 1874 march "Brucker-Lager-Marsch," Král's Op. 51. Googling the
term will tell you more about the famous Brucker Lager and its march.
This identification has, in turn, required the relabeling of rolls
6802 and 6807, Play-Rite program rolls on which the tune appears as
"Old Reliable."
I have made corrected labels for all the above rolls. If anyone cares
enough to want to show the correct information about the rolls in his
collection, send me an email saying what labels you want, and I will
snail mail them to you.
