Greetings, I wanted to write back in to thank all those that
responded recently to my questions regarding a quiet apartment piano.
I did receive much more helpful information on my second request and
am very grateful.
I am now on the hunt for a smaller 88-note console (or studio)
player piano, either playing/not playing in Oregon. Maybe someone
knows of one in the area, or has an old one in their stash of would be
restoration projects. I know some of these instruments have plastic
components so I will be trying to steer clear of those. Does anyone
have a recommendation as to which console player used the best player
action? I would prefer to find one with something similar to the
Standard brand double-holed tracking system.
Thanks to many helpful ideas through MMD members along with viewing
the MMD archives, my new goal will be to insulate the prospective piano
especially the soundboard with a thick blanket or sound proof foam.
I will also shim the hammer rest rail forward, along with adding
a practice mute or drop rail and vibration resistant caster cups.
Discussing this with my neighboring tenants, it doesn't seem to be as
much of an issue with them as I may have made it out to be, but I don't
want to take any chances.
Regarding the QRS Elepian player instrument, I don't think I will be
finding one nearby any time soon. It seems they may be rarer than
I had thought, perhaps they didn't sell many of them or were too full
of problems with the electronics. Certainly an interesting idea
however... Imagine, if an instrument like that were capable of
recording MIDI how easy it would be to create digital copies of your
favorite rolls!
Many thanks again,
