Dear list, Last week I posted a notice in 120701 MMDigest that an
Apollophone upright player piano was available for free in Central
Connecticut. I received enough replies for more info, so today I went
to see the piano again.
The piano is not an Apollophone, as I assumed when I saw it last year.
It is actually a Jacobs Bros. upright player piano, with a record
player in it, much like an Apollophone. The record player cranks, with
a handle that is mounted outside the cabinet, on the treble side of the
piano.
The piano appears to be original on the inside, based on my inspection
today. The case is mahogany but has been antiqued in a medium brown
color. The player system is a double-valve Standard mechanism, quite
common as you all know. The piano would need the usual player system
and piano restoration.
I am curious to know if these were common, so any info would be
appreciated. The serial puts it at around 1920.
Thank you,
Herb Lindahl
