Hello fellow mechanical music devotees, I spoke at length today with
Jeff from http://www.thepianoworld.com/ and I have come to realize
something. I want to champion modern music on these instruments before
they become extinct. Meaning, I want to compose new music meant for
21st century audiences (both academic and bourgeois) for these wonderful
pieces of machinery before all the enthusiasts such as ourselves slowly
die out, and these mechanical beauties are no longer maintained.
So, if you are a proud owner of an orchestrion and/or have an organ
with a wide pitch range (over 45 notes) and wish to show off your
instrument, I will compose new music especially for your instrument.
I am hoping to build enough interest that a whole album can be released
with new music composed for an array of mechanical instruments around
the U.S.A. -- possibly the world -- if some of you have a way to record
a simple stereo setup.
These would have to be automated (obviously) by a music roll or MIDI
player system. I am open to either, but would prefer MIDI. If rolls
are needed then we would have to perforate a single roll together,
which shouldn't be too hard with the number of perforating enthusiasts
on here.
So, I hope to hear from some of you, any of you! This could be a good
chance to place your instrument in music history for I will truly
promote every work that gets played.
