I have just received from Play-Rite the shipment of three new Style 165
band organ rolls that many of us have been waiting for. They are rolls
6532-A, 6651, and 6854. The contents of the rolls can be seen on my
Wurlitzer 165 roll web site: http://wurlitzer-rolls.com/
Roll 6854 is a new roll arranged for me by Rich Olsen, and it contains
his usual high-quality arranging of tunes that I selected for good
listening.
Roll 6651 is a newly discovered Wurlitzer roll from 1929. But it
needs a word of explanation because there is already a 1929 Wurlitzer
roll out there that was numbered as "Roll 6651(?)" based on the dates
of its tunes. When the real 6651 was discovered by Dana Johnson where
it had been hiding in the Bud Hurlbut collection, we knew that the
correct number for 6651(?) is actually 6650. So my online roll catalog
has been adjusted. Anybody ordering the new 6651 who already has the
misnumbered 6651(?) will be sent corrected labels for that roll.
Roll 6532-A is an original Wurlitzer roll from February 1922, also
discovered by Dana Johnson in the Hurlbut collection. As found, it
was missing tune 1, "The Tempest." But I have had Rich Olsen make
a new arrangement of that march to restore the roll to its original
completeness. Some of the tunes, partly in incomplete or mangled
state, were issued in the 1980's as roll 6504(?), recut from an
unidentified incomplete roll in the Ross Davis collection. Roll
6504(?) has now been relisted in my catalog as Roll 6532-A(Variant).
Anybody having roll 6504(?) can get corrected labels by emailing me.
Connoisseurs will, I think, be interested to compare the differences
between 6504(?) and 6532-A. My thanks to Dana Johnson for allowing
these two lost Wurlitzer gems to be recut.
The price of each of the three rolls is the usual $95, with free
shipping.
