Wurlitzer 165 Music in TV Commercial
By T. J. Fisher

Howdy Folks, After a long week of work, I've put my feet up to
relax and watch a long block of "The $25,000 Pyramid." During the
last break, a commercial was aired which featured band organ music in
the background, specifically Wurlitzer's arrangement of "Says My Heart"
from roll 6679. Somehow I didn't catch what the commercial was for,
but it featured a family that enjoyed going out to amusement parks
but preferred to recreate one in their backyard to save money and the
suggestion that there were easier ways to save money. I wonder whether
anyone else has seen this commercial?

I know it's nothing to write home about, but I do get excited every
time I see evidence that band organs still seem to be in our national
consciousness. I also wonder where the commercial's producers came up
with that recording. I've never seen a recording of that arrangement
of "Says My Heart" available commercially. I was certainly a bit proud
of myself for recognizing the tune from a clip that was maybe ten seconds
at best, and a bit alarmed that I was able to do so!

Finally, it's time for a shameless plug. Having moved out of college
for the year two weeks ago, I'm back to work at Glen Echo Park in
Maryland, where I take care of and operate our own Wurlitzer 165 from
1926 as well as our Dentzel carousel from 1921. They've both been
restored to their original condition and are just spectacular. More
information can be found at http://glenechopark.org/dentzel-carousel

I'm there most days we're open until I go back to school at the end
of August, and I'd enjoy showing the organ and the carousel off and
playing favorite rolls for anyone who's in the area and wants to come by.
