Do you ever wonder where an idea comes from? Most everyone has
seen an Aeolian 65-note push-up piano player and its distinctive
top -- why did it look that way? The argument was that if it was
flat, then lamps, potted plants and other items could end up on top
of the unit and which would hasten its removal by disuse.
Yesterday I flipped an Aeolian model 1500 player organ on its side
to replace a castor. In the dim light of night when I passed by it,
I thought, "That's odd -- what is the piano player doing there?"
As I looked more closely, I realized that Aeolian recycled the
curved wood forms that were used on the left and right sides of the
player organ and used them instead to form the tops for the push-up
player cabinets when they quit manufacturing the 46-note Style 1500
organs...!
