Usually I stay out of the sales side of the roll business and
concentrate on making piano and nickelodeon rolls for others to sell.
John Motto-Ros recently sent an A-roll to me for copying, Clark 1174.
It impressed me so much that I want to let those who own A-roll pianos
know about it. It should be available in a few weeks. Email John at

and listening files.
This is a late Clark roll, about 1930, and it is not the usual
adaptation of QRS rolls arranged by J. Lawrence Cook in this period.
The tunes are all hand-played, and the editors didn't mess up the
performances. I'm not good at identifying artists by their style, but
a little research indicates that three are played by Lem Fowler, and I
think a couple are played by Fats Waller. My ear says some sound like
Capitol artists such as Jimmy Blythe and Clarence Johnson. I'd sure
like to know who they really are!
In any event, this is a roll that got my attention. I stopped doing
anything else but listening to the music, great dance music that got my
foot tapping.
