Response to a personal query from Ian L. Archer
I have made many thousands of pipes over the years by dadoing the
sides and backs in one piece in long sticks and gluing in the blocks
(also cut from long strips), some of which are unit block/foot pieces,
the foot having been rounded with hole saws of several appropriate
diameters, the same way the famous organ builders Carl Frei and Carl
Frei Jr. made the foot on many of their pipes.
Carl Frei was featured in the recent COAA 50th anniversary newsletter
last month as the best street organ music composer of all time. You
should join COAA also if you haven't already. They have on their
website the very best page anywhere I have found on making violin pipes
the right way.
