Hey folks! Here is a problem that has risen its ugly head. I'm
rebuilding a Standard pump in an old 88-noter. Easy as could be,
'cept for one thing, and I don't even know the proper wording for it.
Inside the Tempo control box there are two slide valves: one for the
accelerator and one for Tempo. On top of each of these valves is a
shaped piece of what I assume to be spring steel. Its purpose is to
apply downward pressure on the slide valve, to help maintain a good
seal. This bent piece of steel has two gently curved arms which ride
along the underside of the cover of this box, providing the slight
downward push.
Well, this is the first time I have ever encountered a broken one.
All of them in this piano exhibited incredible amounts of rust, and
this one reached its point. How do you make new ones? Or does someone
machine them? Any help will be appreciated.
Oh, and on another note, this is the first pump and wind motor that
I have encountered that was rebuilt with white glue and plastic glue.
Yes, Mr. Reblitz, I _do_ wish I could chain that previous workman to my
bench and force him to remove these glues! What a nightmare.
Thanks again, guys!
