Introduction
By Julian Mayer

Hi all, I'm posting for the first time to introduce myself. I'm
Julian Mayer, a 60-year-old lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering
Department of the University of Cape Town (my home town in South
Africa). I recently acquired a Britannia coin-operated disc player
from an 80-year-old man who has decided to hand over the restoration
to a younger(!) enthusiast.

The machine plays 440 mm or 17.3 inch diameter discs. I also acquired
48 discs with the unit. It's partially working but there are still
a few issues and I'm hoping to become familiar with the machine over
a period of time and hopefully get advice and information from members
of this forum as I get to know you.

I collect a large range of mechanical and scientific antiques, but this
is my first musical box. I suspect I'm incredibly lucky to have found
such a wonderful one. Please forgive any unintentional contraventions
of forum etiquette!

Best regards from Cape Town,

Julian Mayer

[ Julian, Thanks for introducing yourself. I hope others that have
[ just been watching do too! -- Jody
