Once again the calendar page turns for another year of browsing
mechanical music auctions around the world. The first of the four
for 2012 at Bonhams starts with the popular selection (the first
fine sale will be London 3rd May; more on that later).
This one at Oxford replaces the sales at Knowle, sadly closed as
a saleroom, but lovingly remembered as a classic venue. Although
a small affair, it is well worth the look. We have a rather good
Hicks barrel piano [lot 164], a baby grand Steck [lot 163] with
a whole stack of rolls to be sold totally without reserve (if it
makes £20 so be it), a selection of cylinder musical boxes and
a large single-owner collection of phonographs and gramophones.
There should be at least one item in there which will satisfy
everyone's taste.
