I would like to encourage anyone who is interested in punching
their own player rolls to have a go at constructing a punch machine
from Bob's information sheets. He is very helpful with any
technical problems during construction, and the information in his
sheets is clear and easy to understand. I have built punching
machines before and it can be hard work, but with Bob's instructions
and software construction is honestly not beyond anyone even with
rudimentary engineering ability. The link to Bob Essex's site is

There is great satisfaction in punching your own rolls, especially
if it is a piece you cannot purchase easily. If you adapt an existing
printer as I did then the motors and roller drive are already there for
you; the only major work to do is the punch unit and circuit board.
I think I read somewhere that you can even purchase the circuit board
ready-made.
Tom, good luck with your search for a ready made MIDster.
Best regards,
