Mechanical Music in the Movies
By Gregory Filardo

Have any of you seen "Hugo", the movie just out? It is set in Paris
about 1925. Any lover of automata and mechanical music will like
this film as the story revolves around a picture and writing mechanical
man. You get to see all of the moving parts close up!

There is a fairground organ selection present, and a good part of Zez
Confrey's "Waters of the Minnetonka" selection directly recorded from
the Ampico roll! It's a wonderful film set in an age of the twilight
of the golden age of mechanical music and things mechanical.
