A query came in to the MBSI asking for information about a Symphonion
"Brevete" music box that the writer had acquired. Puzzlingly enough,
the writer mentioned finding other "Brevete" Symphonions online.
Recognizing that "breveté" is simply the French word for "patented"
but amazed by the assertion that other "Brevete" boxes were discussed
online, I Googled the term, and sure enough, mixed in with hits that
properly used and understood the term were a goodly number of hits that
would easily lead one to believe that Symphonion did market a disc box
called the Brevete. But they never did, as a perusal of Dave Bowers'
"Encyclopedia Of Automatic Musical Instruments" proves. Thank heaven
for Bowers!
I searched the MMD Subject Archives just to make sure that no posting
there reflected the misunderstanding. But MMDers are too sharp to make
that blunder, and the Archives were clean.
