I'm not beating up on the QRS company. I love the tech support at QRS.
John Omiatek in particular has helped me out a great deal. Pianomation
is a great product, and I've made a lot of money servicing their
universal player mechanisms.
Having said that, why won't QRS S&C let player piano technicians sell
rolls for them without us losing money? When you sell rolls, customers
will buy some, and some you get stuck with, because they don't sell.
Ten percent of my rolls I couldn't ever sell, which means I lose money.
Many of my customers have no idea that anybody makes new player rolls,
which is why so many ask me whether someone does. Many of my customers
will never find QRS on their own, because they are not Internet savvy,
nor are they big computer users.
What better way to promote a roll-selling business than through player
piano technicians? I used to hand out QRS catalogs as a service to my
customers. But QRS would charge me for the privilege. Come on,
let's help each other out here and keep these roll-playing pianos
playing!
