Piano Purchasing and Moving Scam
By Don Teach
A man in our town sold an instrument on the net and received a
cashier's check. They also sent a moving company that they prepaid to
move the instrument. Four weeks later the bank told him the cashier's
check was no good. He had no valid contacts for the movers or the
sender of the check. He lost the instrument and the money.
Unfortunately we see more scams of this type in the musical instrument
business than I want to see. One dealer was sending items to an
address in Los Angeles, and when the cashier's checks were returned by
the bank, the police were called in to find an empty building. The
crooks were meeting the delivery truck at the address and taking the
merchandise.
Makes you wonder about our fellow mankind, doesn't it?
