Hi, Does anyone know the details about a shipping/moving scam when
purchasing pianos or other merchandise on line? I've heard there is
some type of scam, but can't figure out what it could be.
I routinely get requests to purchase a piano off of my web page or
Craig's list postings. The inquiry will indicate they want the
Steinway, with no questions about condition, if bench included, if
rolls included, etc., often in broken English. They will simply ask
how much is the shipping cost.
In the past I would take the time to check with a couple of movers
and get shipping quotes. When I inform them that I can arrange for
delivery but they will have to arrange the financial details directly
with the shipper, I never hear back from them.
Recently, I have been requiring a full name, address and phone number,
again informing them of the direct payment to shipper, before I take
the time to get a quote. Of course, I never hear back from them.
So again, what's the scam? Have any of you experienced or heard of
such a scam?
