Hi John and MMD, I'm currently building a portable MK3a rollscanner.
It's built into a flight case with computer and all and ready to be
used anywhere. It works already but the paper transport isn't done
yet, so no actual scanning is happening at the moment. I will be
finishing the project in the beginning of 2012 hopefully.
My main purpose is to preserve 73-note Hupfeld rolls since, as far as
I know, nobody is scanning these yet. Also other rolls of the Hupfeld
scale have my interest like the Phonoliszt, Violina, Clavitist and
Helios scales.
I want to preserve the Hupfeld 73-note rolls as much as possible and
one day build a perforator for them and start punching copies so the
73-note instruments won't be junked because there are no rolls to be
found. I found out the 73-note systems are not really wanted for this
reason, and they are mostly in very high quality pianos.
Happy to answer any questions or send pictures to those who'd like
them.
Regards from the Netherlands,
Niels Berkers
