Again as per Matthew Caulfield's commentary on the cost of these band
organ rolls [111117 MMDigest]. I agree with you, Matthew, on all counts,
but I have seen these rolls go for much more to band organ owners than
the small bit brought in these auctions.
It is my opinion as a former seller that this eBay seller thought they
would go for much more but was insuring that if they went for minimum
bid, they were covered. I myself only charged shipping plus $1.00 but
would waive the shipping if the roll went high.
It is has been my experience that $12.00 a roll (probably for Priority
mail service) was a little high, but there is packing and time involved
also, and when you have seen common re-cuts go for that, then you have
to take a step back in amazement when an original (even a T.R.T.
original) goes for this price. While the museum could reproduce these,
it had been my experience that they probably would not, but that may
have changed.
If these were Style 125 rolls I might have still bitten on them!
And while I am thinking of it, I think you forgot to also credit Mike
Grant for all the hard work he did for bringing lost music to the band
organ owners. I will be forever indebted to him myself. I am sure
being a Wurlitzer 165 fan you would have dealt more with Play-Rite,
but one has to recognized the field as a whole was _highly_ influenced
by these people.
Best holiday regards,
