Assessing Fire and Smoke Damage
By David Dewey

Hi All, Unfortunately, my computer motherboard died so I can't
retrieve the messages I sent and received a few months ago when
I asked y'all about a smoke damaged Yamaha G-5 grand piano [110307
MMDigest]. The church fire was set by a burglar to cover up a
$70-something theft. The piano was never directly subjected to the
fire, just a lot of soot, and wasn't even subject to water, either.
The insurance company wanted to total it, and you all had great
suggestions.

Well, just yesterday I had a call from one of the church members who
said the insurance company has released the piano (and the organ and
its Leslie cabinet) and I can come pick it up as soon as the rain
stops -- for gratis! So, it looks like I may come out smelling like
a (smoky) rose!

The organ is probably toast, except for parts, but the Leslie is a
match for my electronic theatre organ which is being used as a practice
and stand-in instrument until we get the real 3/16 Wurlitzer theatre
pipe organ installed and working.

The church folks are overjoyed that it's going to be used at the
theatre -- they're happy, I'm happy! Somehow I need to get time to
work on my players, though!
