I am hoping for some insight on the rewind mechanism of my 1922 Cable
player piano. I recently purchased this piano and am very happy with
it, but I am still learning its operation. I cannot move the Tempo-
Rewind lever into the rewind position until _after_ it has begun its
auto-rewind cycle.
To explain further, I had put on a couple of very old rolls that were
not punched for the auto rewind (I did not know this) and, at the end
of the rolls, they did not start to rewind. In fact they kept playing
and were tore from the spool. That is when I realized I could not put
the piano into rewind by simply moving the lever.
I do not know if the piano is broken, or its just operator error or
lack of knowledge. It works fine _after_ the rolls begin auto rewind.
Then and only then can I put the lever to the left and speed up or
slow down the rewind action.
If I use a roll with no auto-rewind cue, then I cannot move that lever.
How do I put the piano into rewind mode? It would seem it should be as
easy as moving the lever. Am I missing something? Or, is the piano in
need of repair?
I would appreciate any advice, and if there is someone willing to help
me over the phone, please email me.
