A few years ago, I wrote a program for the purpose of allowing the easy
addition of lyrics to MIDI files. A few people have used it and found
it somewhat useful. I did very little with it until recently. Geoff
Ward expressed interest but found the program not especially user
friendly. He had specific complaints and suggestions for improvement.
We have worked together over the past couple of months to add all sorts
of features, to make it easier to use. Geoff also created a very good
Help File that explains the use of the program.
For those who are familiar with the program, here is a list of features
added that make it much easier to use. For those who have not seen the
previous version, this information might be enough to suggest how it
works.
Addition of lyrics to MIDI files is accomplished by simply tapping
the space bar in time with the music. The lyrics to most songs can
be found on the internet so it is rarely necessary to type anything.
The program now includes a (user customizable) dictionary of about
97,000 words broken into syllables so it can automatically hyphenate
most English words automatically. The original program required that
you start the "recording" session anew if a mistake was made at any
point. Now it is possible to resume a failed attempt without loosing
the work you may have done. Viewing and editing of the required text
files is possible directly from the program, no need for external
editors. Geoff did a great job on the Help File which explains
everything in a clear and easy to understand way.
If you are interested, please contact me directly and I will provide
the link to the program which comes with help file and examples.
I am hoping to encourage people to add lyrics to MIDI files of popular
music. I can provide many files to those who are interested in doing
so.
