I am still trying to identify my 16" Orchestral music box. I have
had some wonderful input from several readers, but it still remains
a mystery. Matthew Caulfield and Rod Cornelius have been especially
helpful and I have learned that mine is one of the unidentified tune
sheets shown in Bulleid as "Isle Rousseau" tune sheets. Bulleid
pictures four variations of that design (his numbers 140-143). Mine
is the 143 version.
Some writing is at the top of my tune sheet that I would appreciate
some translation and/or spelling correction and clarification on. It
is written in faint red writing and says what appears to be, on the
first line: "Tamboue Timbres & Castagnettes En Vue", then on the second
line: "Hamllets Couples, Chancement 8 Aires A Volonte. Zither."
Can anyone verify the spelling of these words? It is so faint it is
hard to make out. Also, what it the translation? I can piece together
"bells, castanets in view, 8 airs (tunes)," and I know what the
zither is in reference to. But I am unsure of the rest.
I have looked at Nancy Fratti's replacement tune cards and do not find
one like mine. (Nancy, thanks for your time and help!) Does anyone
have a card such as this?
