Hi all. Sometimes I have gotten rolls where if you watched the roll
it wandered back and forth, as if when the roll was punched it was not
straight when it went through the slitters. What it sounds like to me,
without seeing the roll, is maybe when the roll was taped to the core
to wind onto the core, it may have been placed to close to the right
flange and maybe that is causing the roll to fold over on the right
side.
To correct that simply play the roll all the way through and let it
come all the way off the core and then re-tape or re-glue the paper so
that it is not rubbing on the right flange. You may have to iron out
the creased edge to get it to lay flat again, and also tape the edges.
A second possibility is sometimes the roll holder and the take-up spool
are not properly aligned so that the paper has a tendency to curl on
one side of the take-up spool. Since this is a roll you acquired like
this it may have been caused by the previous owner's player piano not
being properly aligned. And, boy, what a pain it is to align them up,
since you also have to deal with the tracking as well.
As far as mending tape goes, I offer the acid-free tape, which I prefer
to use as I don't like Scotch Magic Tape or any other type of tape. If
you want to order some, or have any questions about it simply email me.
You can read about the acid-free tape at my web site at
