Greetings, one and all -- To my surprise, I was recently given a "very
large" player reed organ, including 100 paper rolls. Now, part of me
wants to restore it, that's the goal; however, I've never tackled
something like this before. Granted, I know my way around reed organs,
but wisely know a reed organ is a long way from being a "player" reed
organ. Matter of fact, the thing is so big I think I can hear it
breathing in the night.
First of all, the thing must easily weigh at least 1200 pounds, if not
more. It's a monster of an organ in just about every way. My question
is, what's the best way to proceed to restore it? I've already taken
all the case wood apart, but now comes the really interesting part.
I'd like to think there's a couple of great books out there on restoring
player pianos and that would do me, but I'm not 100% sure about that.
It may be just my wishful thinking.
Well, there you have it. Does anyone have any wonderful ideas?
