Favorite Mills Violano Songs
By David Sharpe

In response to Carl Dodrill's post in 110723 MMDigest, here are some
of my favorite Violano pieces. I list the song number and the roll
number, but I understand the songs often showed up on different rolls,
so you should go by the song number and title, not necessarily the roll
number. I am partial to songs that are still familiar to people my
age, especially waltzes, so I recommend:

10084 All Alone / Waltz / from Roll No. 2435
13517 Are You Lonesome Tonight / Waltz / from Roll No. 2704
1321 Let Me Call You Sweetheart / Waltz / from Roll No. 2704
10390 Deep In My Heart, Dear /from Student Prince, from Roll No. 2481
10669 Always / Fox Trot / from Roll No. 2545
10239 Songs of Yesterday, including: Auld Lang Syne, Sweet Adeline,
In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree, There's a Hole in the Bottom
of the Sea / from Roll No. 2481
(I like this one especially for the barber shop quartet arrangement of
Sweet Adeline, played on just the four violin strings without piano.)

In case you like classical music, my all-time favorite Violano piece is
8462 Legende / H. Wieniawaski / from Roll 2009

Unfortunately my roll of Legende has the last few measures cut off.
I have entered the notes from the sheet music onto a MIDI version of
this piece to complete it and if you are interested and do not find
it for downloading, I could email you the file.

Right now there are three different endings with somewhat different
dynamics but if you have MIDI editing software you could choose the
one you like and eliminate the others. Or you could tell me which
you like best and I could send a file with only one ending. I also
might be able to smooth out the final piano arpeggio if you really
care. I do not have the Digital Violano Player so I can only play
it on QuickTime or similar.
