Hi all, I am wondering if an MMD forum would really benefit
our readers. It seems as if the MMDigest in and of itself is
a wonderful place to visit on a daily basis to find out what is on
the minds of fellow enthusiasts and what problems or experiences they
have encountered. If someone has a question or problem, a simple
inquiry sent to the MMD elicits a large number of responses, most of
which are in agreement with one another. The person submitting the
query will then choose which direction, if any, he will take in
resolving his problem or situation.
I suppose that if someone is on the "road" and is servicing an
unusual instrument with a peculiar problem, a forum might be an option
for obtaining an immediate answer. The question is whether there is
someone on-line that can adequately address the specific problem. Most
individuals who have a great amount and variety of experience in the
field are very gainfully employed plying their trade and do not have
great amounts of free time to sit in front of a computer screen to
answer the occasional quirky question that arises.
Speaking of free time, most individuals in the hobby do not seem to
have a great amount of free time. The addition of a forum would
necessitate members of the MMD having to spend their precious free time
reading additional sources of questions, problems, etc from a different
site.
If this forum was not moderated there is also a possibility that
flaming discussions might erupt. I think that I would be less than
likely to use such a forum.
Best wishes,
Mike Walter
