Hello MMDers, We have a group loosely referred to as the History Group
within our 55+ gated community (Solera at Oak Valley Greens in Beaumont,
California). We meet every other Monday at the Oakmont clubhouse for
informal history lessons given by some of our residents.
The challenge has come out for other kinds of history talks to be given
by some others of us. Most of the talks have been in the areas of
world history of various kinds. I have started to consider a "Show &
Tell" history talk regarding many forms of mechanical music.
Would any of you be willing and able to send me some examples of the
types of media that are used to operate various kinds of instruments,
i.e., cart organs, band organs, fair organs, dance organs, roller
organettes, etc. These media examples would certainly be some of the
"not so usable" kinds of media such as part of a roll or some book
music pages, etc., that might be used use to aid me in my talks.
I would also be very happy to get some examples of dates, places, etc.
that these kinds of media were used or had their beginning. I am not
sure of when I will give my talk(s) at this time, but know that I need
to do much research.
Thanks in advance,
Charles Davis
