Band Organs in a Parade
By Ingmar Krause

I faintly recall having posted something along these lines. If the
Editor finds it, he can post a link instead of my babble. [Nothing on
this subject from you in the last couple years that I could find. So
babble on. --Relief Editor]

In Germany we don't have that many parades going on, especially during
summer. Most of the parades take place during carnival season
(February). We have on several occasions taken our Dutch street organ
into these parades.  Many Dutch street organs are battery operated;
ours is not. But obviously it is more fun to play the organ by hand at
such an event! As the parade can go on for quite a long time, we
switch off with each other at the wheel on the fly.

The annoying part is having to clean our vehicles after the parade, as
many people find a lot of pleasure in shooting confetti at us. Also
previously posted was the one time when we were in Vienna and tried
operating off a UPS-unit. It lasted not very long. We did buy a
motorized power supply, but as far as I know, we never used it, mostly
because it would be too noisy and would have to be placed quite a
distance away to be unnoticed, at which point it would be somewhat
unattended. As there is combustion involved, it cannot be fully
enclosed either. Apparently there has been some technological advance
since, and thanks to the MMD and recent posts, we will look into some
of the quieter options.
