A few days ago an MMDer posted a request for information, but
subsequent digests brought no response.  So I emailed him to ask
whether his questions were answered.  They were, but off-line, with no
copy to the MMD.

That happens quite often, and it seems regrettable to me, because the
MMD archives, which should be a storehouse of information for future
readers, are thereby deprived of our shared knowledge.  When answers
are posted to the MMD they are automatically archived and can be
consulted when someone else encounters the same problem in the future.
