FS: Jimmy Blythe Capitol A-roll Recut As 88-note
By Erik York
Hey MMD'ers, I recut Capitol A-2360 in a small re-cut run a while
back and have one last set of the rolls to sell. These are all tunes
likely played by Jimmy Blythe or Clarence "Jelly" Johnson. The A-roll
is issued on five 2-tune rolls [9 holes/inch, 88-note] and there's
over 32 minutes worth of music from this A-roll.
Some of the tunes are quite longer than the usual 2-minute A-roll
average and therefore required the use of large boxes and flanges,
so there's a lot of bang for your buck. The best guess that I can
come up with for the longer length is that those selections may have
been cut or adapted by Capitol from 88-note masters.
The rolls were faithfully re-cut from an original scan of the A-roll
by Bob Billings of Sierra Music Rolls and come with repro Capitol
labels with the tune listings and high quality "alligator" black boxes.
The tunes are
1. Bumble Bee Blues
2. Don't Break Down
3. Bow To Your Papa
4. I'm Talking About You
5. Me and The Blues
6. Five O'clock Stomp
7. Mama's Got 'Em
8. Lost Man Blues
9. Gonna Get Some From You
10. Bedside Blues
Price is at $85 for the 5-roll set with free USPS Media Mail shipping
and delivery confirmation. Payment can be made by check or money order
or PayPal. First response gets it. Since BluesTone rolls ceased
shipping in February 2010, I don't know of anyone issuing conversion
sets of A-rolls in 88-note format. Unfortunately I don't have plans
(or the funds) to do another run for some time. This is a great way
to get nickelodeon music for your regular player piano.
Thanks so much!

[ Mike Montgomery's data, organized by Matt Jaro, says Capitol
[ A-2360 is entitled "A Tough Bunch of Blues", issued circa 1931.
