Gebr. Bruder Organs Playing Paper Music Rolls
By Jonathan Holmes
I have recently acquired from brothers Markus and Mathias Fuchs, organ
builders in Switzerland, an excellent CD of the Gebrüder Bruder Model
109 that plays in the Musée Baud at L'Auberson.
The organ started off as a Limonaire/Gavioli of around 68 keyless size
and was converted later to play the Gebrüder Bruder 109 Music rolls.
I am told roll-operated organs were preferred in Switzerland as the
music was lighter than books and the Swiss had a weight limit for such
instruments/vehicles.
The CD can be purchased from http://www.orgelbaufuchs.ch/ as well as
two excellent recordings of the Gebrüder Bruder Model 107 roll playing
organ. It has the most unusual original Art Deco front as can be seen
on their web site.
The Gebr. Bruder Model 109 has some really great arrangements, including
the majority by Gustav Bruder, but there are some by an arranger I have
never come across before, Maarten van der Vlugt. Does anybody know
about the arranger? Was the arranger someone who worked for another
company? What period? Any information would be interesting.
