Recordo Piano is Incompatible With Recordo Rolls
By Jim Jelinek
I respectfully wish to disagree with Mr. Roothoff who mentioned that
he thought that the H.C. Bay Recordo system was a good system. I have
been rebuilding for 40 years and have found the Bellman/H.C. Bay system
to be one of the most useless ever made.
The system is nearly impossible to keep regulated and the expression
is erratic at best. On the last H.C. Bay player I restored I actually
tossed out the H.C. Bay system and installed a Motor Player unit instead
and it functioned much more effectively. I discussed the Bellman system
with another player restorer and he agreed 100 percent.
Unless I'm seeing a particularly odd Bellman system (and they
eventually moved on to something of quality) I stand pat in my dislike
of their Recordo expression unit. I have worked on all types of Recordo
systems and H.C. Bays were the only ones I found truly wanting.
