Now that the Wurlitzer 146B has been restored I would like it to start
paying for itself by making it available as a rental. I made some
insurance arrangements with my agent yesterday, although I'll probably
be increasing coverage a little further.
Because I already operate a licensed business with an existing policy
it was a relatively easy thing to add the organ as a company asset.
Right now it's 100% covered, including liability, as long as I'm with
the organ, but I will eventually want to be able to drop it off at
private parties or receptions and then come back for it at the end of
the day. It has a new custom trailer so it does not require unloading.
Reviewing what others are charging, it sounds like $400 per day would
be a reasonable rate, plus $.50 per mile if the gig is an extended
distance out of town.
It will be having it's public debut this weekend performing at
a Farmer's Market. This will be the first time it has entertained in
decades and will be a great opportunity to get some exposure and pass
out rental brochures. The management of the market has gotten rather
excited about it and is going to issue a media press release. If there
is some media response that will be fabulous for getting the word out.
I will also need to get a rental contract drawn up. I have a close
affiliation with a music store who rents grand pianos for parties so
I will consult them to see how they write rental agreements.
What I need are some opinions from those already doing this regarding
the rental rates and any issues I may not have considered. If I am
overlooking anything then I need to address that immediately.
