Mechanical Music in the Movies
By Charles Davis

Hello MMDers. The other evening I watched on Turner Classic Movies,
the TCM channel, a movie called "The Life of Will Rogers," with Will
Rogers Jr. playing the part of his father.

In one scene Will Rogers' father saw, against the wall of their home,
some kind of barrel piano. He turned the crank a few times and it
sounded like an Irish tune -- maybe "My Wild Irish Rose" or a similar
tune.

Does anyone have any information as to what kind of instrument this
really is and any history on it?
