Seek Loesche and Kuhl & Klatt Orchestrion Photos
By Stephen Kent Goodman
Currently in my shop is an instrument that was represented to its
owner as a Kuhl & Klatt xylophone piano. It was converted to play
style "G" rolls a number of years ago, and upon closer examination
of the cymbal and wood block it contains I determined that these
mechanisms were of original German manufacture. However, the roll
drive mechanism, is gear driven and the only thing that was altered
as far as I can tell, was the roll width and tracker bar.
A well known authority on German orchestrions and their rolls, stated
that everything he saw (via digital camera photos) led him to believe
that it was a Loesche.
My client would like to have it restored back to its original format
and we are trying to unravel and solve the mystery of its original
identity. A photo swap would greatly be appreciated, as well as any
input you want to provide after closely examining the photos.
Thank you in advance for any help any of you are able to provide.
