Well, exactly six hours after yesterday's MMDigest came out,
in which I was despairing of finding a copy of Harry J. Lincoln's
"The Tempest," I received an email from John Cowles saying he
would send me a high-resolution copy of that sheet music.
I had searched many web sites, including the larger collections
listed in this union list of sheet music collections:
http://library.duke.edu/music/sheetmusic/collections.html
I also tried places like Parlor Songs, Johns Hopkins' Levy Sheet
Music Collection, Perfessor Bill Edwards, Bagaduce Music Lending
Library. No luck. With Mr. Cowles permission, I will be sending
copies to those places, in an attempt to rescue this H.J. Lincoln
march from being lost in the dust of time.
I was right about the march being published by Williamsport's
Vandersloot Music Publishing Company. Mr. Cowles points out that
the cover art was done by Walter J. Dittmar, and that Perfessor Bill
Edwards' web site has the story of Dittmar and his work for
Vandersloot here: http://perfessorbill.com/artists/dittmar.shtml
I will surely see to it that Perfessor Bill gets a copy of the
sheet music!
