Piano Plays 88-note, Duo-Art & Ampico Rolls
By George Fawkes
I have been absent from the mechanical music activities for some
time but just recently came upon a question that I can not answer.
A lady has asked me for information on a piano that she says plays
either the Duo-Art or Ampico rolls, as well as the regular 88-note
rolls, interchangeably.
I have always been under the impression that the rolls for two
reproducing pianos were different and that it was always necessary
to stop the three end holes in the tracker bar to prevent odd notes
from sounding when playing ordinary 88 note rolls. I am currently in
Italy; the piano is in Idaho. I will be able to see and examine the
piano next month but I am wondering if I have been misinformed all
these years.
I do not intend to get back in the roll making or repair business but
may want to buy or sell this piano so I need to re-educate myself as to
just what this piano can do. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

[ Any 9/inch player piano can play Duo-Art and Ampico and Licensee
[ rolls when the extreme holes in the tracker bar are disabled. A few
[ custom-built reproducing pianos and push-up players exist which are
[ able to reproduce the expression commands of two or more systems.
