Shellac & Varnish Wood Finishes

One thing to add to Karl von Scyoc's post -- if you do use shellac
based finishes (french polish, etc.) it is unwise to apply too many
coats too quickly.  I would allow 24 hours at least between coats.

The surface appears to dry quickly but it can trap the spirit beneath,
as I found when polishing my Rogers Ampico, when little bubbles
appeared months later on the surface in the warm weather.  Aaarrrgghh!
