Several months ago I sent a note saying we were making reproduction
Wurlitzer wonder lamps [110123 MMDigest]. We have had many inquires
and the project is coming along well.
We have had ten spun metal sets of parts made and the rest, except
filigrees, are being hand made. The reproduction filigrees are being
custom made and will match original sets. The "jewels" are flat
backed and allow a nice amount of light to pass through. We are
putting an electric motor on the back which chain drives the light
when a coin is deposited. It is housed in a painted wooden case.
I m not really doing this for profit. I have seen so many
Wurlitzers with the lamps missing and so many people offered to help
that I decided to make ten lamps. Currently there are seven still
available.
The cost with the filigrees will be $2,250 considering my current
costs. If anyone wishes belt drives from the right side of the
orchestrion we have to make the pulleys and a tensioner. This costs
more and will have to be planned for each job so that everything
fits properly.
It is possible that we will eventually make more of these but I'm
getting old and am supposed to be retired and working on my own
machines of which I still have about five or six to finish up. If
you have a serious interest email me and I will send you pictures of
finished lamps and various parts. Figure that each lamp will take
about a month to finish.
